The Japanese Culture & Language Center (JCLC) at Showa Boston Institute brings together language learning, cultural experiences, and community events that celebrate Japan and foster meaningful U.S.–Japan connections.

Obon Festival

Tea Ceremony Demonstrations

Guest speaker Masaaki Maeda

Masaaki Maeda, Executive Director of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of New York, will share insights from his distinguished career in business, technology, and nonprofit leadership with students and community members. Drawing on decades of experience strengthening U.S.–Japan relations, his talk will offer perspectives on leadership, international collaboration, and cross-cultural engagement.

Boston Nakamaro Karuta

The Boston Nakamaro Karuta Club meets a few times each month at Showa Boston Institute, bringing together Showa Boston students and community members to enjoy the traditional Japanese card game, karuta. Players of all experience levels are welcome.
